This is my last attempt at finding this color. I am looking for the EARLY ford or mercury color that is closest or is the color in the pics below. Now I know about the gm color Madiera maroon. And I know about the mercedes color bordeau rot. But what I want is an EARLY ford or mercury color. Please help me.

But I am hoping that someone can tell me with CERTAINTY what color this is. Thanks for your consideration. And yes, I have seen both maroon car threads. AND I know it is not Mandarin maroon.

It might be 40 merc Monaida maroon or merc dynamic maroon.

I'm with JSEERY about the possibility of them not being factory colors, or even all of them not being the same color. There is an '84 Ford pickup color that is a pure maroon. I don't know where you got these pictures, but if you see the car at a show ask the owner. Unless you are hung up on it having an original Ford name, there are lots of maroons and you should be able to find one you like.

I think you are looking at coach maroon? A lot of woodies from 1939 to 1941 were this basic Ford color. Sorry, did not see it posted as such above.

I'll just throw this out there for anybody to take a potshot at. How about 1932 Ford Maroon?

There was also a Garnet maroon for the 1940 Mercury. There is no way to say what the color is from your photos. The two tone photo that you show above is supposed to be Folkstone Gray and Mandarin Maroon per Ford specifications for 1940. If you are saying that it is not Mandarin Maroon, then its anybody's guess as to what color maroon it is.

Knowing what color FoMoCo used back in the day is somewhat meaningless now. The actual color formulas are what a person needs but even those can be impossible to use since the colors that were used to mix them are no longer named the same way as they were back then. My suggestion to folks it to look for an automotive paint supplier local to them and see what they can do to get a color match in a good quality single stage paint. Two stage paints can be used but they are usually a knock off from original since the clear coat has an affect on the way the paint appears that is different than they originally appeared back in the day.

I would have to question if a person wants complete originality or just a color that is close but has a modern look to it since it does make a difference in the outcome of a paint job. I looked for a mid century Mercury color "Luxor Maroon" for one of my 1951 models for a long time before I found a mix that matched it. It was one of the first poly colors used with metalic so it was impossible to use the original mixing formula. Over the last 5 years or so some of these colors have made a come back in popularity so now it is easier to match but the names are all different and some are for other manufacture's vehicles. The mixing colors also have different names so the formulas are different than they once were.

Our local DuPont paint store has a book of paint chips.I believe it's called a Fleet Color Selector. It's pretty much the whole spectrum of colors.Metallic as well as solid colors. If you have access to one of the cars on your post, you could bring the car to the color book or the color book to the car and come up with perfect(or near perfect) match. Names are just names. The formula is what's important.

My PPG rep has a formula for "Volante Coach Maroon" as used on 40-41 Continental/Zephyr. I had him rework it with more transparent toners to get the depth of old finishes and was very happy with the result. Your rep should be able to the same. And listen to the advice of a black base. No pun intended but a night and day difference in the final look. How deep is the color? Take a look (the top pic is the reflection):

Your results may vary, tax n title extra, no purchase necessary, void where prohibited...

I used the Dupont Fleet Color chip chart for years but now that Dupont has been rebranded as Axalta, I don't know how long those chip sets will be useable. So far I have been able to get those colors in some but not all of the new Imron Elite series single stage urethanes. I have experienced some problems with the new stuff. It's not the same as the old Imron for sure.

Early Ford Maroon ... PPG #1011 in my chip book.
You'll probably need to get PPG to send the formula to your paint supplier.

Just go to your local automotive paint store and look at the maroons available. I'm sure you will find one that you like or matches the color in the photos. Who would know that the color was from a Buick or Cadillac? If you continue to search it just delays your car being completed. At some point you need to seriously consider making a decision and stick with it. JMHO

Good luck even if you know the correct color. My local ppg dealer could not duplicate the 42 Ford color Fathom Blue. Said its formula wasnt in their library. I had to use their color catalog and pick what I liked
