Thermostat/Temp gauge installation

I stand corrected. I was only going on memory. I looked into them at one point and sticker shock drove me away. $92.50 according to the web site

I installed a 160* thermostat that fits inside the upper water hose, at the outlet of the gooseneck. Also the gooseneck is taped for my temperature gauge probe.
I now have a consistent operating temperature and warm-ups in all weather conditions thanks to this set-up.
Thank you Ford Barn............................Pete

I ended up doing exactly this, seems to be working great so far. I need to get a new temp gauge though, as the one I tried on there was an old autometer I had laying around...doesn't exactly go well with the car.

I just installed the upper hose nipple for a temp. gauge. I bought a 160 degree thermostat, but decided not to use it just yet. Mounted the gauge with a nice bracket holder under the speedometer with the two existing screws. Test ran the A for about 40 miles, engine temperature ran up to 160 degrees and stayed right there - no thermostat. Remember, keep the coolant lower to the top of the baffle or it will spit out enough to acquire that level. I have a couple of picture, but some how the system won't transfer them. I'll try ???

Old thread but here is an experience.

1. I was dealing with a slow overheat (car ran above 190 without load poor radiator)

2. Installed the Temp gauge pipe splice.

3. Replaced with Berg Radiator (really runs cool without thermostat. less than 140 most of the time.

4. Problem: Berg inlet pipe 3/4 inch longer than other radiator. With temp probe pipe in line now radiator is about 1/4 inch too far forward for proper hood alignment.

5. Have ordered Vintage housing. I like the idea of quick change without taking hoses off! Also will now have plenty of adjustment to align hood up properly.

I think I had around 60+ dollars in the other setup with freight. So not a game breaker to put on the Vintage.

I was surprised how efficient the Berg radiator is! (darn near turned the rig into a beer cooler! :))
