Thermo-Quail

I'm replacing a Thermo-Quail with a standard Quail Cap on my 1930 Town Sedan (I now have a dash mounted temperature gauge). It appears that the Thermo-Quail has had some Dremel work done to fit it into the neck of the radiator. The new Quail cap doesn't fit. My question is should I follow this example and Dremel the diameter of the new cap to fit (where the yellow lines indicate), or do something else to accommodate the diameter difference?

You should not have to trim anything.

Do you have a photo of what was trimmed on the thermo quail?

I found the same problem with one I had that was made by Vintique. I have a Berg radiator if that would make any difference in the neck opening size I don't know. I didn't think there was enough material on the tabs to be grinding and wasn't about to grind on my radiator neck opening so I didn't use it.

I don't think it would hurt to grind away some material as you have indicated. Even if you get into the holes. As long as most of the holes are there they will work as intended. The proper tool to use is a lathe, but if you don't have one you can use a hand grinder, like a Dremel.

OK....thanks. It's a pain in the neck to grind it down, but I guess I don't have any other viable options.

when you place an order ask for one there are still a bunch of the last run of catalog. They are just not mailing them out by themselves for obvious reasons.
