The Working Man's Garage

I rented this 10x20 for $65 a month for 3 years (1972-1975). One 110V electrical outlet and no ventillation. It was brutal. Finally moved out and it still only took me 12 more years to finish my 40. OUCH!

I'm truely jealous of you California guys. You don't need a garage, just a little shack out back!
I'm in the process of buying land and relocating (jeez, it seems like it's taking forever).
Right now my garage is full, and so are two 8 by 40 storage containers.

Cool pics of sheds and cars and projects.I think governments worldwide should pay us old car guys, while we potter about in our sheds we are not shooting each other, not fighting, and in generaly keeping to our selves.I don,t think most wives know how lucky they are to have a shed man.My 2 cents worth, great pics.Tony.

All those years of working 5 to 9 (not a typo) might have disqualified me as a "working man" since I have more than one bay, but here's what we did with a little add on a few years back. The first is just after move in, the second is about the same angle after a couple years. Oy!!

Back down to 5 cars plus parts for another (ex body) in there now.

I had an earlier post garage with Black 47 4dr, and the parking meter next to it. Here is my other passion VW's, but I have had a bit of everything, triumph's, mg's, morris minors and on and on, but my first car was a 60 cad and my second was a 63 VW and I was bit, had 15 vw's or so this one is a 61 vert. She just got a new clip put on her...

denverslim California may have some nice weather but out in my shed in the winter (at 4000' elevation) I use a wood stove and still have to snuggle to it some days to stay warm, cold air and snow has a way of finding all the gaps and cracks. BTY like your intake and cylinder head display and wish I had room for a container.

Picture from last year, which has since been rearranged, cleaned, and only holds two projects now....and 13 engines. 24x24.

Here are some pics of a club member's about 10X14 metal shed where he has built a 32 5W cpe from an old hot rod that was stored in 1954. Pics were taken the evening we helped him set the body back on the chassis. The body was hanging from the roof and the body was being rolled in and out under the body. It was TIGHT when we all got in there but we were all very happy to be there!

40FordPU you deserve a medal. You also must be skinny. I dont think I could even get in there. Having lived in the same house for about 30 years with a 2 car garage for the daily drivers and a 20 x 20 shed out the back I have always promised myself a
bigger shed because there was never enough space for working on cars and storing them.
I retired a couple of years ago to play with cars and in the last 12 months have done some serious damage to myself a few times trying to move cars and parts around when everything is in the way of something else. This is what happens when you get older and still try to do stuff you did 20 years ago.
In the last episode I tore the tendon off the back of my leg trying to push a 47 Merc body on a trolley on to the driveway. I decided that was it. I either had to get a bigger shed or get rid of some cars and equipment (not really an option) so having to sit and do nothing for a month I looked for a new house with a shed on the computer and this is what we finished up buying. A nice house on 2 acres and a great shed. 60' x 26' with a 20' wide, 4" thick insulated panel awning the full length. Electric roller doors and 3 phase power. Looks nice and clean now but give it a couple of weeks when we move in and it will be full.

Nice, I could only dream of that mush space for now. The parts barn is falling down and I am scrabling to get another building out at the farm in decent enough shape to store parts in. Last winter with alot of stuff I needed to sell covered in the snow for several months forced me to sell things I did not want to. Rod

California guys? What one minute. I think its the guys who live in the midwest or east coast that have all the land to build cool garages. I would die for a half acre of land to build a hut...

Any of you guys that need space-----you can build a shop down in my woods. Just don't mess with the still--------.

40 ford; I thought I had it bad trying to build a truck in my tackle box, I have taken the last month and reorganized to try and find the parts I am looking for to get my truck back together. Hope you labeled things better then I did & Hats off to you.

I see a lot of guys out there with the million dollar garages. And while they have million dollar cars, I think most don't actually lay a finger on anything but the radio buttons. I don't mean that in disrespect, but I would love to see the everyday man's garage. If you have pics post them. I will post mine. I am restoring a 40 truck from a single car garage in southern cali, where space is limited. Let me tell you, what a challenge. If you have any cool features to your garage, post pics and explanations. Thanks

I put my pants on one leg at a time just like you, I build all my own stuff, all my own body work, all my own paint, all my own engine work welding wiring all that. 725 square feet and more than half is occupied by the Plumbing operation, it's tight. In Chicago we do not let strangers look in our shops or garages, most times if you show a feller your shop at 9am he will be back at 3 in the morning. You never seen a guy wet himself like a guy who suddenly has a little red dot on his face at 3 am with a crow bar in his hand, I usually drift it around right in front of his face to determine his IQ, the longer it takes for him to see it the dumber he is, if too dumb you may actually have to give a little squeeze. So no pictures of my shop, sorry.
