Absolutely beautiful job. I love the color and I think it complements the body color wonderfully. If any purists say it's the wrong color, or painted wrong, just ignore them. Your car will be one of the prettiest Model A's at any meet.

As a purist I must be the first to say a ******* by the right artist is most gratifying....;)

Was the "Stripe" taped on first, then taped on both sides with the "Stripe" tape then removed? Lot of steps, but it looks good.

Roadster,

As a Pinstriper since the mid 50's I am curious about something. What kind of paint did your Airbrusher use and did it have to be Clear Coated?
Also did he scuff the area to be striped after taping it off prior to applying the paint?

I love the job he did. I understand the process as I also have been
Airbrushing since the 60's. I do the "hand-applied" stripes if the customer insists, but will always prefer to tape off the long lines for a straighter and more even-width stripe. Then I use a freehand brush to do the curves.

I don't often use the Airbrush for striping unless I'm using the Automotive paints which then have to be Cleared.

One of the neat tricks to taping off the area to be striped is to use One-Shot lettering Enamel. No Sanding or Scuffing the surface, just cleaning it good. THEN, after painting the stripe in, carefully remove the tape as soon as possible so the edges of the painted stripe can lay down. Thus, giving the painted stripe a soft shoulder, making it difficult to tell it had been taped off.

No clear coating at all, and yes we used One-shot lettering enamel. I / we emoved the tape after spraying and no sharp edges at all.

If you had to do the project over would painting the tank inside surface, and pinstriping off the car been easier? Fighting a freshly painted tank and webbing isn't fun, but primered isn't too bad. How did Ford do this step originally?

To aswer your questions :

In those day's pin striping was done by hand a far as I know. At least to the pictures I have seen.
As the body was still of the frame we could easily sit down on the wooden cross member.

The tank was sprayed apart from the body ( note the black tank webbing )

The paint striping took about 50 min to do.. but the cleaning , light scrub , cleaning again , and then the masking took approx 8 hours.

I'm not knocking your method or the job- I think it looks great!

But you could hand stripe 3 or 4 cars in that amount of time, or more if you do it for a living. (I don't!) I'm sure the cost would've been about the same either way.

Dear Luke, there are no hand pinstripe rs to find here in the boondocks where I live. So I had to go with the flow . The guy who helped me out was VERY reasonable and above that a very nice guy to.

To all who gave me the thumbs up a big thank you but I don't deserve that I only accommodated the job
