The Parts Store

Delux Delivery, That's a very nice station you restored. There was a similar garage just one mile north of me that still operated into the 70's until the new bridge was built over the Mississippi, when they tore it down. For bathrooms, all they had was an outhouse, and for the oxy/acc torch, Libby still had the old acetylene generator, where you had to drip water over the carbide. The floor was so thick with old grease and dirt that you'd think it was a dirt floor.

that photo reminds me of an estate sale I went to...the gent had old tools, old ford emblems and nick nacks mixed in with his tools....he lived over 100 years and had every tool imaginable!

Every once in a while you hear a story of an old car dealership that has sat unused for years, Someone buys the building and all the old parts are still in the parts room. Haven't heard about one for many years though.

This one has been sent to me via email no less than 10 times... So, many of you guys have probably seen it as well. In any case, I wanted to post it simply because it's such a d... To read the rest of this blog entry from The Ford Barn, click here.

I am wondering if this photo is of the Hockaday & Phillips store in LA. They also had a similar layed out store in Santa Ana Ca. and a much smaller store in Orange. They were the big auto parts distributors up into the 50's, with multi locations, this was before NAPA really got going. I believe the Santa Ana store is where Bill Hays (Hays Clutches and Centerforce) worked as he started his business.

Wow...both shops are amazing. I was definitely born in the wrong decade. Makes me sick to think we dont have quality like that anymore.
