The Green Bible - Ford Lit

I just acquired the original, infamous Green Bible today. A 1928 thru 48 chassis parts and accessories catalogue printed in 1950 . I also have a original 1938 to 1942 passenger car and truck chassis parts and price list printed in 1941. Why two different "books" printed by the same company? Are their other books I dont know about? Why a "reprint" of the same material printed in 1950? I feel privileged to own both dont get me wrong and it is mind blowing for someone in their mid 20's like myself to hold a piece of history in my hands even if it is only 70 years old. Just curious as to the "difference". Thanks

Well, for one thing the information for 1943 to 1948 parts is in the green book. There are lots of chassis and body part lists beside the two you have.

One of us is missing something here. The 1950 book is a summary of the parts that are still active from the years 1928-1948 cars and 1928-1947 trucks. The 1938-1942 book is a pretty much a complete listing of those years. It is true you will find many of the 1938-1942 parts listed in the 1950 book but only the ones that were still active at that time.
Yes there are other full coverage books for the other years.
You indeed have a real treasure in your books. They will be valuable to you as long as you own them and very much so if you decide to sell them.
Hope this helps.

Don't forget to throw the 28-37 book in the mix also. Which makes it more understandable why a need for the 38-42. Rod

Anyone that has ever researched parts for a particular year or model of Ford vehicles usualy finds that the parts catalog dated the year his vehicle was made will give an acurate account of the model for that time frame only. The parts are many times changed mid year so the next year the part for the same purpose has a different part number. For the restorer it is good to have every last bit of information he can get on hand to identify parts and especially one year only or superseded parts.

If you are curious, here's a partial list of the chassis books published by Ford from 34 to 48. Usually they published a chassis book for 1 year only at the beginning of a model year and later followed up with a chassis book covering a multitude of years. (usually 28-that model year) One of the most popular books published prior to the Green Bible was the 28-37 book. It was reprinted at least 2 times.

In addition to this list is a body parts list for each year and Canadian parts books that are different in some respects from the USA versions.
