November 28th 1927.

After six months of silence Ford Motor Company officially announced the arrival of the Model A Ford by printing this full page ad in thousands of newspapers across the United States. It was the first of four ads to appear each day leading up to the official reveal of the New Ford on December 2. The newspaper ad campaign cost Ford 1.5 million dollars (USD) which was the largest marketing campaign to date. N.W. Ayer out of Philadelphia was the advertising company responsible for the marketing push.

We did a video a few years ago about these announcements if you want to learn more.

I wonder if Henry wasted his 1.5 million. The "new" Ford was news and I'm certain that papers would have published press releases and sneak previews of the car for free.
We've found over the years if you need something published in the paper take the reporter to lunch buy him a couple drinks and hand him a prepared story & pics. They'll take the easy way to fill space every time.

"Friday of this week will unquestionably be one of the most important days in the entire life of the automobile industry."

So said the second Model A Ad that was printed in thousands of newspapers across the US on this date in 1927. This was the second of four ads that Ford published and it referenced some of the features of the New Ford albeit in rather ambiguous ways. The ad also featured a thumbnail image showing two men, one holding a stop watch, as a roadster speeds away from them leaving behind a trail of dust.

Ford's 3rd day of announcing the yet to be seen Model A included actual specifications about the New Ford for the first time ever. 40hp engine, Multiple disc clutch, hydraulic shocks, standard gear shift, and four wheel brakes were among the features highlighted. It also included for the first time the names of the four initial color choices; Niagara Blue, Arabian Sand, Dawn Gray, and Gun Metal Blue. Some of these facts had been rumored to be coming but this was Ford's official confirmation of new features. This ad was printed on this date in 1927 in two thousand newspapers across the US.

Tomorrow will be the first pictures of the New Ford.

On December 1st, 1927 Ford published the first images of the Model A in a full page ad taken out in two thousand newspapers across the US. This was the fourth and final ad printed by Ford in advance of the December 2nd debut of the New Ford.

We made a short with the ad featuring the song "Since Lizzie Changed Her Name to Baby Lincoln (The New Ford Song)" which is the oldest song about the Model A.

I can't imagine how exciting a time that would be.

How can we relate that to this time frame?
