The Best Bulb for your Drop Light

Yesterday I picked up a 4 pack of 13 watt Feit compact flourescent bulbs at Menards for $6.98. I've been using CF's for years in my drop light because they will never burn you, and they don't burn out every time they are bumped or dropped. These new bulbs are even better than the older ones I've been using. They came on instantly when I turned them on in my 15* F. garage at 4 A.M. and they seem to give off a brighter whiter light than my older CF's. My older compact flourescent takes a few seconds to come up to brightness when the temp is under about 32*.

Tom,
'whiter'...is not necessarily better ! It's a wierd white that makes for a strange feeling when trying to read anything. Like looking at/into those darn whiter car headlights that are on the road now. Messes with your minds' eye,eh !
AND, what the heck are you doing in a garage at 4AM in 15*

Try it, you'll like it!:)

I was going to look at my front spring to see how it compares to the one having problems on the Fordbarn thread. Someone has a front spring that is up against the perches on each end. I'm using a temporary front end while I rebuild my original, and this is pretty worn out and has a repro spring, so I didn't get any pictures to help.

My carbon filament Chaillet bulb in my droplight hasn't burned out yet.
I was thinking of trying one of those newfangled G.E. tungsten jobs when it does.
They're supposed to be brighter and whiter.

Tom,
LOL...
Yeah, I'm aware of that thread contents. When I redid my front axle (rebuilt) it also was..shackles gouging on top of axle. Turns out my original spring had two leaves broken and worn shackle bushings. When the spring was fixed/rearched and shackles renewed ...fixed same problem.
How have you found repro springs to be faithful to specs or repro junk again:confused:

The few repro springs I've had experience with have been fine. I did have a problem with a repro perch and had to grind on it. As I recall, it was the ring by the shock link ball.

Tom,
if we lived closer I'd have the coffee on. 4 AM is a great time to be up; paper is on its way, neighbours are quiet, wife is still sleeping and like this morning, the moon is full.

not really a bulb i guess, i use the florenece type drop lite, it doesnt get hot, has a shield over it so if oil or water drips on it it doesnt burn out, the draw back is its long, 8", it makes it hard to get in some small places, ive droped it i dont know how many time and its still working

The best trouble light bulb I had was one I found in the trash, it was marked "railway-streetcar" ---it lasted me 10 years in a Mc Gill trouble light housing --drove over it once, threw it to the ground several times, wasn'r the brightest bulb, but it lasted the longest of any bulb since
