The 844

I get a whole street full of foamers when the 844 or 3985 roll through town. I can't imagine how it is at the scheduled stops in North Platte, Kearney and elsewhere. I have seen both up close in North Platte, but always hours after shutdown and the crowd is mostly gone. At some point I would like to watch do a midmorning stop for water and fuel in Kearney.

BTW I agree with Pete about stopping on the tracks regaurdless of the situation. Being the son of a retired conductor I can tell you that many railroaders live with the guilt of having hit someone. Luckily Dad never did, but did hit a sailboat that was on a trailer crossing the tracks and had many close calls with others. Rod

Rowdy Rod,
In Utah, a man was towing a beautiful boat on a highway alongside the R/R tracks, just ahead of a train. Hit some potholes, trailer came loose & swerved onto the tracks & was totally demolished by the steamin' MONSTER!! Bill W.
