i dont beleive scrap yards are allowed to scrap them and they can get into a heap of trouble if thier in thier yards. i think there's some special forms or something from the RR office they must have on file sorta thing.hey dad tom has the right idea ALL ABOARD...
and if those rails were rusty wouldn't the scrappers have nabbed them by now hmmm
Mitch. We need to take our cars out there to get some pics... Road trip!
I went behind the 844 from Portland to Cheyenne in 1954.
100 mph in some places.
By the way Whirnot, that was a very bad place to stop your car. Illegal for one thing but aside from that, even though rails are rusty, as long as they are connected to the main line, and those are, a train can approach at any time.
If you are going to be driving near railroad tracks you might want to familiarize yourself with Operation Lifesaver. It could save you and your car.

Not to worry, the car was actually stopped on a siding which is owned by my company. I had to photoshop out the bumper at the end, and crop out the docks etc. It is not connected to the main line. You can see the spur line short of the main, and I am on the siding off that. The siding is over 1000 feet long. You might note the wood platform that ends just in front of the tires, it is for the backs of trucks to sit on while loading.
I would not dream of stopping on an active main or spur.[/QUOTE
So, Bill, (sounds like an echo) with computator editing, what we see may NOT be what we see, right?? Like is that really you car? There's one here in town that looks like a twin!!
By the way, sum Bill's "hurtful" posts have apparently been attributed to me & got us in hot water. NAW! it couldn't have been you, probably sumbody didn't know how to read GOOD! I think you're a GOOD DUDE!Bill W.
Say what?
Let's get with it and jump on board!!!!!!
Trains are by far my favorite way to travel.![]()
