The “37 Footer” pickup

A few months ago I bought this 37 pickup. It had the original cable brakes, still working, and sometime in its past it got a SBC transplant. It had some wiring, headlights, taillights but nothing was hooked up. The original 37 transmission was still there and eating itself to death behind that motor. The banjo rearend was so caked in grease you could barely see the bolts. So…
I immediately upgraded to 39-48 brakes and hooked up the lights. After a few short drives into town the transmission gave up. I built a new transmission with the later gearset and tower. While the rearend was out it cleaned, inspected, and regasketed. I also added some new old stock leaf springs and tube shocks up front. I currently have about 500 miles on it and it’s coming along well. This past weekend I removed all the windows and after I get the windshield frame painted the new glass can go in. The best news is I have a great running 59A motor to install in the near future. Stay tuned and I’ll post updates on progress. I’m currently seeking better rear fenders. I’m sure fenders are everywhere… lol

Re: The “37 Footer” pickup

That rear fender don't look so bad. What does the rest of the fender look like? I just sold a right rear that had all but the final straightening done but needed still needed finishing touches done, which is the hard part, for $350.00, so they ain't cheap. Also, sold a pair of really rough, rusted out, ragged and split in several areas for $200.00 just because they were in my way, and at my age (93) I'd never use them. I threw in another rear that one might possibly get a couple more small patch panels out of if not in real critical areas. Looks like a pretty nice 37 to have fun restoring. I would suggest restoring it mechanically and drive the wheels off of it.

Those fenders are now GOLD, better keep them. Newc

Here’s some shots of the passenger rear. It can be fixed. It’s just going to take some time. I do have some fairly nice 33/34 fenders if anyone is up for trades…

Re: The “37 Footer” pickup

This is a great pickup. I bet it's really fun to drive. You have timed it's 'coming out party' perfectly for the coming good weather! Thanks for sharing, we will all be watching your progress!

Re: The “37 Footer” pickup

Man oh man, please don't make that truck "pretty". It is perfect in appearance as it is now. Well, except for the white tires...

Re: The “37 Footer” pickup

I agree with Kube, that patina is earned! Keep it that way, except maybe some wide fives.

Re: The “37 Footer” pickup

Nice truck!…..I have all the parts for one as an on-deck project…..now just to have the time…….Mark
