Test Equipment Photo

Your help please, I purchased an old All-Pro Automotive Tune-Up Analyser (USA made) and it did not have a user manual. I understand the workings of the unit, but it had an attachment that I do not recognise and hopefully someone may recognise it and advise me with what it is for.
Many thanks Paul

i will have a try at guessing---
it's harder without something to scale the size of it--
perhaps it is a shunt to do starter amp testing, the thumb screw end looks like it could clamp to a battery post ---the other end could use a post like used to convert a side terminal battery to a regular post--are there marks on the metal like it was bolted to something, does the analyser have a high amp scale, what terminals on the analyzer could it connect to

post more pictures, perhaps someone seeing the analyzer will jog a memory

I was thinking the same thing. I have an analyzer that uses a shunt
similar to the one pictured.

I have added some more photos, hopefully this will help. It would have been easier with a manual. I am not sure how teh shunt works and I do appreciate the feedback and help. Regards

When a heavy current is passed through the shunt there is a small loss, the 2 wires going to the meter measure the voltage of that loss, which the meter converts to the amp reading

If you have a name and model number, try to google "owner's manual" for it. I've heard there is a site with many owner's manuals, but I don't know what it might be.

As Kurt said, you slip the end with the thumb screw onto a battery post and tighten the thumb screw, then bolt the battery cable to the other end. You then disable the coil so you can crank the engine without it starting. Now you can read the cranking amps on the meter.

If you have a side post battery you will have to buy a short bolt to fasten it to the battery, and may need to buy a nut and washer to fasten the cable to the other end of the shunt.
