Temperture sending units

The original cap was not pressurized...I have been running a 3# cap on my 40 ,for many years with no problem...

go with another gage , my 40 gage shows almost all the way to the right hot, i installed a sun pro mechanical gage ,and it shows 170, double checked with a temp gun ,170 . you can buy the sun pro on line or advance auto for about twenty dollars it is a piece of mind.

As far as operating temperature goes, a general rule is that a flathead will run 100 degrees above ambient air temp., if everything is in good condition

A lot of people run Skip Haney's 3 psi overflow valve with a tight radiator cap. It keeps the coolant in the cooling system without over pressurizing the system. $28 including shipping and handling. skip@fordsrus.com 29436 Taralane Dr; Punta Gorda, FL 33982. Skip also modifies water pumps to flow more water, rebuilds coils, etc.
