Temperature Gauge - 35-39

Have a 39 temp gauge that works perfectly. Trouble is the liquid is clear and almost impossible to see at a quick glance.
Since these are closed capillary tubes, is it possible to somehow inject dye?
By the same token, should it read too high or low, can liquid be added?
Lastly, what was the exact liquid used?
Many thanks and Happy New Year.

I believe the original fluid used is no longer legal and the replacement goes not get very good reviews (fades quickly). Hopefully someone can provide you a solution.

Red food dye can be used to color the alcohol in a capillary tube and can be injected with a needle if the tube glass is not sealed. An acetylene torch could be used to open and reseal the glass tube. Without a spare to practice on (the fluid will easily become separated into 2 columns), it might be a futile effort.

John Wolf Co in OH redoes them and his fluid does not turn clear.$160 to do do my 33 dualtemp and I am pleased.
