Temp probe

I was trying to replace my upper hose with one of those stainless inserts I got from Macs. The existing temp gauge/probe is 30yrs old and doesn't fit in this new insert. I'd have to get a 1/2 to 3/8 (pipe thread) adapter, but there is no lip for the probe to seat against. Does anybody know where this old one may have come from or how I could adapt it? I attached a picture with the old and new one.

Is there a nut on the inside of the old one? If there is
you may be able to take it apart and just screw it into
the new one.

If worse comes to worse, head down to your local auto-parts store and ask for an adapter kit for mechanical temp gauges - these usually have one of the bushings with the seat for the sensor bulb.

Thanks guys. The old one is way too rusty to reuse, which is why I got the new one. I try the auto parts store for an adapter.
