Tbird Door glass removal

I am replacing the door glass in my 56 tbird. I have the glass out of the door but I am finding it difficult to remove the glass from the bottom channel. The chrome upper molding came off the glass without a lot of trouble. But the bottom is a real problem. I have looked at the shop manual and there is no mention of how to remove the glass. I have tried to heat the channel with a heat gun but did not help much. Any Suggestions???????

It should be a pretty tight fit, and we used to knock them off with a hammer, working back and forth along the length. To re-install, we would epoxy the channel onto the new glass. We found this much safer than re-installing them with the rubber, and having to drive it back on, which often times resulted in broken glass. I'm curious to hear how others have dealt with this.

I used a oak block of wood and a rubber mallet. I layed to window assembly on a flat workbench with corrugated cardboard and then a towel over that. I also tried several chemical sprays like WD-40 shot in there to loosen things up.
Go slow so that you do not bend the metal channel. You may also try a very fine blade putty knife, driven in to help break the seal.
All this for me was a trial process which did work for me but was pretty stressful. Didn't break any glass!
To reinstall the the glass is just as stressfull!.
Try to get a template or pattern to use as it is critical that the glass goes back in the channel in the right place, front to back. Also reattaching the stainless back on is the same way. It has to go on and follow the pattern.
Good luck, this was probably one of the most stressful and time consuming parts of work done on my bird. It take more patience than most of us have.
