Im taking the fenders off to paint and the running boards... Im taking them off a 1931 ford truck........ do the metal parts that tuck under the cab come off are thay bolted I want to take everything off... any help would be great....:o

The only part that connects under the cab is the splash aprons, and if you have the 1930 style fenders with the 2 piece splash aprons. In both cases you'll have to lift the cab to get the splash aprons off.

If you are talking about the sheet metal it can come off but it is very difficult because the body is bolted to the frame through it.

If you are talking about the brackets under the running boards, as I remember, they are riveted to the frame. Unless removed previously, then they will probably be bolted.

Its too much work to take them off, paint and put them back on. Just take them off and sell them to buy some speed parts for that banger

I wouldn't sell the fenders ever. I would do it the right way! It hurts me as a youth to see people destroy the originality of these old beauties.
First loosen the body bolts and then one by on take them out on one side and then have someone lift the body slightly up. Then put it down and put all the bolts in. Make sure you don't tighten then yet. Then go to the other side and take out the other bolts... Basically repeat what you did on the other side. After that tighten them all down again.

Just my two cents.

I didn't sell my fenders. I am going to keep them I might need them when I get old. I will never find a set of fenders that are that clean and fit that well. All Ford steel and paint.

^^ What gives?? ^^

Totally stock Model A without fenders. And he still owns the fenders. That car could be brought back to factory stock in an hour. I don't see anything wrong with it.

I don't see anyone freaking out when someone builds a huckster, boat tail speedster or a doodle bug.

I didn't freak out. I said "Boooo Hisss!!!!!"

Maybe I should've used :( instead of

And it was in regards to "Its too much work to take them off, paint and put them back on. Just take them off and sell them to buy some speed parts for that banger" Not his A.

She not all STOCK....

Coee was asking about speed with a model A in another post. If you wont to make it faster a little engine work and take off some parts for wight and aerodynamics (like back in the day) Next thing you know on your way to work you can pass the cars instead of have a train of pissed off people behind you.

coee,
If I remember corectly....besides body bolts: there are TWO special bolts that go through the splash aprons and frame...they locate/hold the splash aprons in place. They are special, in that they have large almost flat heads and if you don't know of them...well you could ruin splash aprons trying to get them off without removing these special bolts! Hey, mabe '31 pickup didn't have these bolts. Check parts diagrams/catalogues to see if your '31 model had them. My '30 roadster did. good luck
