Putting a second tail light and turn signals is the one thing I've done to my A thats not stock. I am going to get LED tail light inserts too. I had too many people wave at my arm signals and then turn right into my path, not having the faintest idea what an arm signal meant. I wonder if kids aren't taught them in driver's ed anymore.??
i was but that was 9 years ago...
motorcycilist use them often around my area so i dont think thier too foreign to people around here.
But to Dtolson - KY sounds like IL when regarding antique vehicles - however it left the assembly line the YOM is how it must be today. Turn signals are your option to add, i do believe you are required to use hand signals tho but not 100% sure on that.
I did ask my local state police HQ what the legality of me using strobing amber lights on my AA as i told him legally i only have to have one running light and one brake light on the left side. I told him i would feel much safer and be safer to everyone else on the road when im going 35-40mph to be lit up like an amber strobing christmas tree. I specifically asked if i could set it up like our highway trucks with alternating strobe patterns and side to side strobe patterns.
He pulled out the huge IL vehicle codes book and looked up the section: Technically only highway maintenance trucks, construction workers actively on a job, or tow trucks, service vehicles, etc are allowed strobing amber lights (im not talking flashing lights - whole nother can of worms). but he verbaly told me if he saw me driving with them on he and his fellow officers would not bat an eye at me rigging something up and driving them them strobing away as they felt it would be a safety hazard for me NOT to have them. BUT he did say they are technically illegal...
I was going to purchase the identical kit the IDOT trucks use and use an old 12V car battery hidden in a "vintage" looking box (orange crate perhaps?) and run wires to other boxes or pipe with the amber lights out on arms so for shows i can simply disconnect everything and make it look like its prop boxes in the bed... or perhaps one long narrow box decorated like vintage something and simply turn it around and face the cab when at shows to hide all the LED's and reflective tape.
Those lights can easily be seen up to 1/2 mile or more away LED strobing lights are VERY bright!
