Tacking Strip under rain gutter

Is it possible to nail the original stripping back on a new top of 29 model A Sedan, and then attached the original gutters or should I try to find new tacking strips?

That is what I did, I just made sure the wood was solid.

You should definitely try to use your original tack strips and rain gutters. Do all of the restoration work on them prior to installation and watch that you don't put too much paint on them as that will make it more difficult to fasten the gutters onto the tack strips.
