I received my Body Wood Kit from Fordwood for my 30 roadster, my question is how do I mount the straight tack rail on the curved car? Please see pics, thanks in advance for any advise.
That is possibly the least of your worries. The end sections must be cut across the grain and run the risk of snapping off at a BAD time. I would recommend springing for a steam bent tack rail from Oak Bows.
I installed the same tack rail you have from Fordwood last year. What I did with the long straight piece was to start and one end and put a bolt in and snug it with a nut. The I did a couple more holes till you start to get to where it is tight to bend then I let it sit for a couple days. Then went back and bent it till it was all bolted. I figured at that point if it breaks I'm not out nothing and better to break then than have it upolstered. Mine didn't crack or break. Maybe I just got lucky. It is a pretty good bend to work around. The curved side pieces required some sanding and fitting and I glued and screwed them on to the straight piece and let the final assemby sit for a week to settle in place. You can also wet the pieces to soften up a little, fit and bolt it down then set it in the sun to cure. Worked for me and it's still holding in place after a year. Marcos idea of 1 piece steam bent would be the best idea.
A fellow club member had a steam box set up to bend some wood to restore an old boat. I got it from him, soaked the tack rail in water for 24 hours, then steamed it for an hour. It worked great.
