Tachometers????

I am thinking about installing a tachometer in my car. Along with my temperature gauge I'm thinking it will be s omething else to distract me while driving. Anyway - other than the model a parts suppliers, are there a good reasonably priced Tachometers out there. I have a 6volt positive ground.

I have had good luck with the electronics from Harbor Freight. They have a 2" tack for $21. Lots of 20% off adds in Rod and Custom, NRA, etc magazines. Their small volt meters are also very reliable.

Thanks for the great feedback. Do you need to hook these up to a spark plug lead of can you work it off the coil?

Westach.com provides a 0 to 3500 RPM 6 volts positive ground. I had one for two years that I moved from vehicle to vehicle as needed. Easy connection appeared to be very acurated. Ask for longer leads to go from the coil to the mounting point.
Model: 2CT32-6V
Price: $111.00
Tachometer 3,500 RPM, 2" round, std pt ign, 2 imp/rev, 6 volt pos or neg grd.

Where did you mount your West Tach at?

You could mount it just like I mounted my clock. I used a strip of 3/4" wide brass and made a mount to fit just behind the tank mount. It's out of the way and easily read by the driver.

If you mount it in the 12 o'clock position and in front of the tank mount, then you'll want a mount where you don't have a screw sticking down that could catch on your legs while getting in and out of the car.

On a 31 indented firewall model, things get rather crowded in this area, especially if you have a SignalStat turn signal thingy stuck in the mix as well. Like 30TUDOR, I'd like to mount a tach and temp gage there as well. I've tried the Apco style gage mount, but there's no way with the SignalStat in the way. Any suggestions for that puzzle?

on my S/W T/S I found a piece of 1/8" sheet aluminum and cut it so that if fit between the dash rail and the steering column and stuck out about 3" on each side of the steering column and using a 2" hole saw cut a hole on each side for the tach and temp gauges then bolted it to the later style steering column support.

Thank you, very nice job on mounting your clock!

Bert's Model "A" Store sells small tachs for "A"s. I think Synders has some in their latest catalog. I could not find an old Sun tach so I bought one from Bert's

After first using a tach that I had "laying around" which was a 8,000 rpm unit I finally spent the big bucks for one of the Westach units and couldn't be happier. The limited sweep of the 3500 rpm gives a far more user friendly view of what your engine is turning & the fact that it allows for a couple of ways to wire they work for any style wiring setup. I'd endorse them any time
