T-5 in 39

Mocking up a T-5 in my 39, it appears the clutch fork is going to interfere with the stock brake pedal. Right now it's behind the 59 that's in the car, later to be an 8BA though I don't think that should make any difference at the trans/bell housing. I'm using the stock pedal to push a Mustang master cylinder for a disc brake conversion. Anyone who has experience with this, you're input is appreciated.

There is no clutch fork on this installation other than the one inside the bell housing. Everything clears just fine. What parts are you attempting to use?

Cletus hello there. I am doing a t5 in a 29 model A behind a 52 8ba. My internet service will not be here till next week so I cannot send pictures. I am on a small phone. I had to do modifications to use the disks on the front and drums on the back. I used parts out of a 52 ford. The ball that came off the 52 clutch.Used a(gasp that other car company's) master cylender. That was on the shelf.Free.I used model a Ford peddles.As one fellow said I welds better than I spells. I turned the master cylender sideways with a bellcrank.I wonted the fill cap under the floormat not under the seat. Lyle

I know the t-5 conversion is a big trend right now. An overdrive will give you six speeds forward. This conversion is a lot cleaner and less hassle.The rpm range on OTR trucks and old Fords is narrow. The more gears the better for climbing hills and going down an interstate highway. Splitting gears can keep the rpm just about right.

This is the way I would proceed. I think the cost is probably about the same. I have not heard complaints about the Mitchell overdrive transmissions that mount close to the rearends.

To Dick Spadaro:

I'm using a complete kit I bought at Honest Charlie's. The kit was made by Flat-O-Matic. The clutch fork appears to be a 52/53 Ford, according to my mechanic.

Sturgis 39:

I don't know anything about a Mitchell overdrive. I do have friends who have used a Hone-O-Drive (or whatever they call it now) and they work great. My problem is I plan to have about a 200 hp flathead in the car. While that doesn't sound like a lot to me, it evidently sounds like a lot to a 39 floorshift 3 speed. I know me. I've broken a lot more durable transmissions than a 39 and proudly raised my son to do the same. Hopefully the 59A and trans will eventually find a home in a Tardell style roadster with light weight that maybe a little more tolerant of my juvenile antics. (I'm only 60!)

Cuzncletus, I looked that kit up on their web site, That kit is not the correct application for your your vehicle. This is a simple swap using the correct parts. You need to do a search in the HAMB for some more info and it will make life a lot easier.

Dick is right! The kit you have works best in the 49/53 passenger application. I have sold a kit like that for years. As I tryed to explain to you in my PM you need the conversion kit that is designed for 48 and back and uses the cross shaft with an internal fork to move a stock style Ford Throwout Brg hub with a stock early throwout brg which engages a Long style 3 finger PP and a disc which fits your transmission. On the outside of the bellhousing on the end of the shaft will be a lever which will hook with a linkage to your stock 39 pedal assembly. Both Dick and I sell a product which work for your application. Gary at Cornhusker

Krylon and Dick;

Thanks much. I'm on the phone to Honest Charlie's as soon as I finish this post to try to rectify the problem.

I installed a S-10 5-speed behind a Flathead 6 in my 51 F1 5 years ago. I used the stock clutch linkage on my truck which after reading KRYLON32 post sounds exactly what you need to do. The only parts I had to buy were the adapter, Pilot Bushing, and a Sintered Bronze Bearing for the Throwout Bearing to ride on.
I put the link below hope that helps.
