Looking for information -- are the early synchronizers interchangeable with the later type provided you use the correct shifter fork ?? Thanks in advance.
The early types didn't require as much movement as the 1939 & later 91A set up. The late type has blocker rings and the early type doesn't. A person will need the 91A-7230 2nd/high shift fork if using the later type synchro and the gears that work with it in an early case. If the trans has the old angle back type shift tower of 1935 and older then a person would have to fabricate a shift fork that would work. I've heard of folks welding up a fork to fit. Mac VP's book is worth every penny when working on these old gearboxes. http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/flathead_trans-book.htm
They are not one for one interchangeable. The blocker synchros use different input and output shafts compared to the early non-blocker synchros. You need to change the entire top gear train.
