Synchro Ring ID

I've pulled my '40 transmission apart and have a question about the brass synchro rings......
The second gear ring is marked "182", and the third gear ring is marked "178".
Do these numbers have any particular significance, or just a manufacturer's mark, etc.?
Thanks,
Joe

They are also interchangeable (91A-7107). I've heard some of the late ones don't fit the taper of the coresponding gear very well so this fit should be checked prior to assembly.

Terry, Rotorwrench.......appreciate the replies. I'll check the taper when I get new ones.

We found that many of the rings available from the early Ford vendors do not fit correctly. We found a source that makes them fit nicely. We had to buy a large qty and they cost a bit more, but they have the right fit, and NO modifications are required.
