Swapping 8rt into 1946 sedan??

I thought I would re-phrase and repost my question. What kind of problems would a guy expect to find in putting a 1952 truck engine in my 1946 sedan delivery?

New here to the game here, please forgive such a simple question.

thanks, Erik

About as close to bolt in as you can get, except for the top rad hoses on the 8RT are smaller than the top connections on the '46 rad. ..B.

Using the early heads will increase compression quite abit and eliminate the radiator hose problem. You'll have to clearance the heads for the valves as the 8ba has it's valves alittle higher in the block. Use an a 59 head gasket and plug the front water hole. 8RT are low compression heads. This is a nice conversion, change the distributor for even better performance and economy.

Does the 59 head gasket cover the front water holes, or do you plug with JB weld or something like that?

Thanks for the good info.

This may help. When you use the pipe tap, do not tap so far in that the pipe plug no longer gets tight because there is no more taper left in the threads. go a little bit at a time and "check" using the pipe plug.
Then use non hardening permatex on the threads. Here's more.

Re: Swapping 8rt into 1946 sedan?? Ol' Ron

Ron,
What distributor do you recommend?
John

Not trying to be a thread stealer but, I used a mechanical advance Mallory electronic dist. It was originally a dual point, but I changed it to electronic using their kit.

The Mallory is a good unit fir racing, but does not have a vacuum component in the advance curve and usually runs late in cruise. I'd use an MSD or cconverted SBC.

Barlea, I used the 8RT pumps and the original 8BA distributor. Then I switched to the Mallory. So , eiher of those will fit. I think the converted GM distributor ( that Bubba makes) has a larger dia cap, but folks are using it so I assume it fits also. Hopefully other folks will vouch for this.

19Forty - The converted GM distributor does fit using the 8RT water pumps.

Ol'Ron - Which gives higher Comp. Ratio 59AB heads or EAB heads?
