Swap 1964 289 in a 1952 Ranch Wagon

52 Ranch Wagon has a Flathead with a 3sp overdrive.
Would like to swap it out with a 64 292 out of a F350.
Would be cool if I could keep the original trans in the wagon.
Is there an adapter plate or do I even need one?

I'm assuming you want to mate a 289 small block to the existing trans in your Ranch Wagon? I'm not an expert but I did install a 302/AOD combo in my '54 Ranch Wagon. And from I remember of my earlier SBF experiences the trans bolt pattern on the existing O/D trans you have is the same as the early narrow pattern on the SBF. But not sure about the front bearing retainer diameter or the input shaft overall length. Most were the 5 bolt bell housings not the later 6 bolt bell housing that Ford came out with in 1965. If you want an O/D trans you might consider a T-5 already mated to a SBF. But your car, your choice. These generic photos might help. The first photo is a SBF bell housing showing the narrow pattern that I believe is the same as the Y Block. The black bell housing is a Y Block. The trans on it's side is an O/D unit from a Y Block. Last is the photo showing both the wide and narrow patterns used by Ford.

I believe all Fords have the same transmission bolt pattern for '49 to '64. Most common adapters say this.
