Surface filling

I have many steel forgings and sheet metal formings that have varying degrees of rust pitting. Would like to fill the pits and paint over to obtain a smooth new look. Can anyone suggest a good filler product?

Feather Fill is a spray on product. It is a polyester high build primer that in effect is just a spray on bondo.I have used it on very pitted sheet metal and so far I like it.

I also recommend a spray-on polyester like Feather-Fill. I have used a similar product, Evercoat Slick-Sand. The problem with using ordinary filler on irregularly-shaped things like forgings is that it is hard to apply an even coat, and you end up with lumps that take forever to sand off.

BTW, I once tried brushing on Slick-Sand, and it was not very successful. You really need to spray it on.

I use rage gold plastic filler, sands easy and is very flexable, kinda pricey but you get what you pay for, ive been doin restoration work for over twenty years and never had a problem with it! And use a good quality catalized high build primer , its all in the prep work do it right and do it once! Lots of block sanding and patience and you will have a nice finished product!
