Gentlemen
I am putting a super Winfield aluminum head on my 1931 banger. Does anyone have a recommended torque setting for me. The block has studs in it.

I'll agree with Collin. 55 pounds. Anything over 60 starts bringing the deck up instead of the head down if that makes sense. Just re-torque your head every couple heat and cool cycles until the nut doesn't move anymore when you go to retorque it. It usually takes about 3 addition re-torques before everything is completely settled in.
 
Aluminum head...check the manufacturer's instructions to see if the head needs steel washers under the nuts. I think the last aluminum head (not Winfield) I installed required it.

Thank all of you for the help! I am installing steel washers and torquing at 55
Then will run it through a heat cycle and recheck.

I found the Winfield head too thick and had to have longer high tensile studs made.
Otherwise only about 2/3rds of the nut thread was engaged
