Suggestions for a forgetful fellow

at least with an A you won't drive of with the pump nozzle still in the tank. or would you ?

Knowing me, maybe :) Actually, since I can't get a full tank using the latch on the handle, it's less likely.

Thanks for all the responses so far.

I like to carry a red shop rag - or two - with me in the car. Seems I'm always finding something I need to wipe off my hand/fingers when we take Jippy Car somewhere. I like to fold 'em and lay them between the front seat valance and the shift lever on our '29 Briggs Leatherback...up outta sight and out of the way, too. When we stop to fill up, I take one of the rags and lay it on the cowl to catch any spills and drips....just lay the cap on the rag right next to the filler. Seems to work well for me...'cause I seem to forget stuff, too... :p

My wife made me a nice diaper, the color of my car, that goes down around the filler neck of the fuel tank and I set my cap on it while refueling. When I lift the diaper up, I pick up the cap also and wipe any dribbles that may have gotten on the paint. It also catches a few splatters as I'm filling the tank. I haven't lost a cap in over 14,000 miles of driving.

My wife did the same thing. She made a wrap out of plastic with a cloth backing. It fits around the filler neck with elastic and drapes over to about the bottom of the gas tank on both sides on my 29. It cover the area from the windshield to the hood. We got the idea from one of the vendors catalogs where they were selling this type of covering.

I sometimes put the cap on the wrap but will put it in one of my pockets for safe keeping. The old memory does go as time goes along. I remember awhile back I put oil in my windshield tank on one of my modern cars.
