Suggestion for FordBarn improvement:

Chris in WNC

Well-known member
all right, I know not too many of y'all are in the witness protection program.

so what in the name of Sam Hill is this great reluctance to put your city and state in your Fordbarn user profile?

it makes reading the postings much more meaningful and interesting when that information is included.

if you are truly bashful and think you have a good reason for being so, can you please put a general vicinity in your profile? such as "Gulf Coast" or "southwest Montana"

am I the only nut out here who thinks this would be a great improvement?

-Chris,
always willing to stir the stew,

here in Jacksonville, Florida.

I agree. A year or two back there were 2 people with the same name. I believe that one now list his name and state. If people would list their locale it would make more sense on many posts. The weather, rust, hot sun, etc. is different across our nation or world and leads to different problems and conditions. If someone was looking for help or assistance it could be that another member only lives 15 minutes away but would not be known if the person didn't indicate locale.

The whole screen name and lack of an address seems to be an integral part of general practice; I can understand why people are cautious about online identity, but imagine if everyone had a real name showing...a lot of the horrible misbehavior we saw on the old barn, with stalking and insults, would probably have never happened.
An identifiable person is going to be more responsible and polite than a clever anonymous screen identity.
All the old car boards have lost good people to rude, agressive misbehavior.
More identity can be better.

I can see some of us not telling where we live[ protecting your collection of cars] . I'll let you know that my 180A is miles away from my house in a heated gargage [ Well ALARMED one at that.] And yes owner knows how to shoot. Retired young Cop. So maybe some want to holdup on their names.Do we really know who is reading these post. P.S. Terry L. thats a very nice look "A" .. Super. [Chris your standard coupe is Very nice too] thanks for sharing with your pictures.

If someone tries to steal my beater truck, i am calling you Peter. But of course, who would want this besides me? Mark.

I am not so sure about real names AND addresses.

A thief could look the house number and street and steal your precious A model.

Some of you even have your house shown in the avatar, so they can be sure the A model is in the right garage.

I ain't paranoid... hell, I live on acreage and don't even lock the joint up.

In my case, they may get in, but they will be spotted by neighbours and if I come home, they may get a .22 calibre to hurry them up.

But in the suburbs, I would be more wary about advertising my whereabouts.

I guess it must be where and how I was brought up,but I never give a second thought to identity, stalking,or thievery.I do not own a door key.My garage is the same way.In the summer I leave the 12X12 garage door open to take in the cool of the night, then close it early so I can work in it the next day.I do have locks for the sheds where the old cars are parked as per the insurance requirements. It would be quite a feat for somebody to drive two A's out of the cellar with me sleeping right over the garage door.My little compound is 600 feet off the road, there is somebody around almost 24/7,with maybe a little window when there is no one awake.I also come from many generations of gun lovers. My whole family has more guns around than the women have shoes.I have tenants in one garage that work on old cars until one or two in the morning,my dad takes his 3 AM walk from down the road, down my lane and a turn around the garages and the house,he is armed, not for people though, rabid animals are making a comeback here.I may just be behind the times.I never saw any reason not to put out my address, name, phone number,if any info of mine does not show up it is because I am a techno-idiot and didn't do something right.Spam on my computer is almost non-existant,but I don't do a lot with it so my exposure is minimal.I have gotten a few nasty emails from people right here on the Fordbarn,I have no idea why, they are usually garbled and make no sense so I wonder if somebody just harvests the email address and has fun.No big deal,I can run the delete button.

I am a retired Law Enforcement Officer. I realize that the world is not without risk, but the information that I list does not put me at any substantial risk. There is no reason to be paranoid. My user name includes my first two initials and my last name. I list my City and State. If anybody wants to find me, my online information is not going to give them any more information than they can find in a number of government publications that are available under public records laws. If anybody is close by, I would be happy to help them with their Model A. I agree that a location is nice information to have listed.

Keith,
Click on "User CP" at the top left of the page. Then click on "edit details", scroll down, and you will see where you can enter your location.

Chris in Jax: I wholeheartedly agree with you, It's nice to know at the least the state the poster is from, almost like a courtesy. JMO

My location is part of my user name. Glenn in Camino is Glenn Johnson in Camino California, 12 miles East of Placerville, about half way between Sacramento and South Lake Tahoe. A little bit of heaven with a heated garage in the Sierra foothills. The leaves have changed and we're expecting a little snow next week. You're welcome to move here but only if you're a Model A guy.
