Sudden overheat.

I installed a new heater core in my 1950 ford custom. The right side boiled over after I installed the core hoses. The reasoning behind saying the right side was the culprit is because I noticed both the top and bottom hose were collapsed after it was turned off for a while. I'm thinking the thermostat did not open. Anyone agree or have another thought.
Also what temp thermostat should I be running. I drove it over the weekend and no problem at that time.

You may have had an air pocket in the hose(s). Typically, once you install something like this, it's best to bring the engine up to normal operating temperature and with the radiator cap loose, rev the engine a number of times.
You can feel each heater hose to see if they are both hot. A cheap heat tester (Harbor Freight, etc.) is even better if you, like me, have nerve damage in your hands and perhaps can't quite tell if both hoses feel about the same (hot).

If the hoses feel about right to you, I'd suggest you remove the thermostat and see what the result of that removal is.

when you installed the heater core you have to bleed it.with eng. running loosen the return line to remove traped air in core
