Stuck Starter

Have a stuck starter. Two bolts connect it to the trans/bellhousing. Removed the bolts and can't get it to come out. What am I missing? Any ideas? Thanks

I'd probably put the bolts back in, put the truck in high gear and rock it back and forth until it pops loose.

yep, bolts hold starter together when you pull it out....might need to be pushed inward toward engine while pulling out??....as bendix is behind the flywheel....Mike

lift starter slightly while pushing it toward the engine, then pull it out a bit till it clears the fly wheel, then pull out the rest of the way. Careful not to let the starter come apart on you. Reinstall the same way. It weighs about 18-20 pounds so watch yourself.

when you get starter out check the shaft where the bendix is located, it may be bent which causes it to lock against the flywheel,if it is locked up do as was stated in another post, put the trans in high gear and rock the car back and forth till the bendix comes free

When I read "stuck starter" I thot of the bendix geat stuck on the ring gear. If that's not what the op meant, please correct.

"Stuck" is usually caused by the lack of the bracket that supports the front of the starter to the the block - at the oil pan rail.
