Stuck Distributer

Any tips on getting a stuck distributer out? My brother has been trying to get the distributer out of his 29 Pickup and It will not move. Yes, the lock bolt is our and he is dousing it with Kroil. Any tips are appreciated!
Thanks!

The vendors sell a puller . Might contact your local club and borrow one ,

If you are pulling the head also , leave it in the head and drive it out from the bottom .

A little heat may help you that old cast iron is very brittle keep soaking -soaking- soaking use a puller if possible no matter what tool you choose to use or how you choose to do it take your time don't rush it you may think about getting a spare one also good luck

Don't even think about trying to pry it out. Unless you are extremely lucky, it WILL break. Get yourself a puller from one of the vendors, or pull the head and remove it by pushing it out from the bottom. When it breaks, you will need to remove the head anyway. What ever way you chose, good luck. Keep us informed. Don/WI

Soaked mine with 50/50 mix of acetone and ATF then GENTLY pried up with a 3' crow bar. I was lucky I guess as I didn't break it.

I wonder if while putting upward pressure on it with a pry bar and turning the engine over would make a difference? It moves some so that is telling me that it is the shaft holding it rather than the distributer body.

the shaft is a slip joint at both ends so if that is all that is holding it, it shouldn't be by much.

Did you remove the distributor set screw? With the set screw removed shoot some PB Blaster into the hole, let it set for a couple days. Use a puller. Tighten the puller and GENTLY tap the distributor body with a plastic or hard rubber hammer. It should pop loose.

I had one where the shaft was holding the distributor in quite hard due to rust. I had to remove the valve cover and clean and tap the joint to get the distributor out.

Kroil, time, and tapping should work.

Update, I removed the valve cover and the shaft moves up and doen when I pull up on it, the distributer body is loose too. I suspect that the distributer is broken and the part in the head is stuck, keeping me from getting it out. Waiting on a puller from Snyders now.

If the distributor is loose then you don't need a puller. The coupling slot is stuck and probably from rust. Just spray it with Kroil and tap down on the gear while lifting up on the distributor.

What I am trying to say is the body of the distributer is loose, only because it has broken from the part that slides into the head. The shaft coupling in the valve chamber is free, the piece in the head is stuck. Yes, the locking screw was removed as step #1 in this procedure.

Update, removed the cylinder head and drove oiut stuck distributer hub. Now it is clean up and re-assemble. Thanks for all the input!

All of this was to replace a bad condensor. A standard exhaust manifold is going back on. It had a heater manifold that would not permit removing the condensor without raising the distributer.

Make sure the cylinder head gets checked before reassembly or you may have to pull it again in the long run.
