stuck clutch help

Hi,
We put a V-8 clutch and new clutch disk in car 1000 miles ago when it was rebuilt. We then had motor trouble and had to remove it. I Got the motor back in a few days ago. I made it 50 miles working well, and then the clutch wouldn't release when I came a stop sign. I got it back home, and took off the inspection cover. Linkages and throw out all seem OK except one of the 3 release levers that run on the throw out bearing flops around like there is a spring missing. I don't know if that would make any difference or not. Does anyone have a idea of what could have happened to the clutch?

Thanks for reply. The pin could be the problem. I suppose there is no way to put the pin back in without pulling the engine or rear end?

If the clutch was a new one from China, these seem to be troublesome. I just finished replacing a failed V-8 clutch that was made in China in a fellow club member's car.

I have used original clutches that have been rebuilt for many years with out any problems. I use Ft Wayne Clutch in Indiana. Very good people that make a very good product.

My experience.

Chris,

My builder ordered the clutch when he cut down the flywheel. I have been doing some checking today, and am afraid it is a new Chinese unit. I do intend to find out for sure. Assuming I have to take it apart, I will check on how the pins are secured in place.

Thanks for note.

Me to on a Friends car that we rebuilt the engine in. The pin came out. He found a original V8 plate that fix it. No more china plates for me.

Here is an updated on my clutch problem. My new "off shore" V8 clutch as about 1000 miles on it.

The 3 pins that the fingers work on have a press fit on one end a snap ring on the other. On my clutch, 2 of the 3 snap rings were missing, and one pin had came loose. It looked just like the picture Mitch posted previously.

We welded the snap ring end of the pins, so they won't come out again.

wow thanks for posting the result....
God damn junk...

Had the same problem. I was on the so called tractor 8N pressure plate. It too failed at a stop light. One of the circlips was gone and the pivot pin fell out. Got the Long style pressure plate and the pivot pins were secured by cotter pins, which will not loosen or fly off.

Do the bad plates have the counterweight on the arms like the original Ford car plates? Just wondering how worried I should be about mine.
