Strombergs:

I'm thinking of incorperating two Stromberg 97 carbs on my model b motor. The motor is stock other than the 2 carbs. Will that be more gas than it can handle in acceleration. If so, can it be rebuilt with smaller jets ? Is there 2 other carbs that will work better without making it more complicated ? Will I get enough fuel using gravity or will I have to use a pump? Any info you have will help.
Thanks,
Jim

Jim,
Yes. Yes. YES! Regarding fuel delivery,i.e.- gravity/pump regulator..yes/no! Pm me with your email for pic/info that might help;)!

Can you run them w/o a pump? yes, but it wont like it to much when the tank gets low, and it will start spitting and sputtering everyonce in a while. But 2 97 carbs in my opinion is to much carb for a bone stock engine. Itll run to rich all the time. Jmho

If you simply have to have two carbs, try to find a pair of 81's. Two 97's is way too much carb for a near stock A engine.

I agree with Geo H. Two 81's are better than 97's for stock engines. Or look for Holley/Ford/Chandler 92's, which were the replacements for the Stromberg 81's and have the .81 venturis, and are a better carb IF properly restored. (Here comes argument!!) Since everyone wants the Stombergs, maybe you could trade. Talk to the V8 guys. If just wanting better performance for touring on an otherwise stock engine, use a single carb, although the duals do look cool.

81's would be better for an otherwise stock engine, but 97's should do OK too. Start with the stock .045 main jets but go to smaller power jets, like the ones for the 81.

I just got a pair of Strombergs from a guy that had them on his B engine. They have .042 jets in them and he said they ran just fine. As stated above, try the .045's, then work your way down.

i have #42's , but seems like it runs out of fuel at higher rpm's .... not ez to get the 97 correct for me ... steve
