Stromberg 81 on 1937 ford 85 hp

I have a 1937 ford Sedan with an 85 hp engine but it has a Stromberg 81 carb on it and I think they were normally on the 60 hp engine. I’m pretty sure the engine is 85 hp because it has 21 head bolts on each side and I heard the 60 hp engine only has 17 head bolts on each side. Will an 85 hp engine run Ok with a stromberg 81 carb on it???

It should have the bigger bore 97, and your 81 is worth more than a good 97

Agree. You'll run fine with the 81 at lower RPM but you won't make 85 hp as you pick up the revs. Yes, the 81 is worth something. IMHO, you'd probably love a new genuine Stromberg 97 from the UK, but not a knock off 97 from another unnamed country.

I've owned original 81's and new UK 97's. They're both awesome.

Back in 03, JWL and I drove to Bville from Georga 2500 miles in a 40 ford with a 255ci flathead with an 81 carb got 22 MPG, Car ran fine 60/65 cruise

If it was mine, I'd probably look for another 81 & a dual intake laying around somewhere.8^)

81 will be fine just will run out of puff high up twin setup works fine you need to look at what you do with it and where it spend most of its time
