Stromberg 48s or 97s?

I have a pair of freshly-built Stromberg 48s and a fresh pair of 97s. I'd appreciate advice from anyone with experience running either set on an engine like mine: 149 cfm B&M blower, engine bored & stroked to approx. 284 cid. 8:1 compression, forged pistons.

Current components of 48s: #49 jets, #60 power valve.
Current components of 97s: #43 jets, #67 power valve

Which dual carb setup would you recommend? Change jetting in either to #46-47? Any other suggestions?

As usual, your knowledgeable help appreciated.

Well, two 48's will give you approx. 50 CFM more vs. two 97's. I have a friend who has a 276" with a SCOT blower, mild cam. He runs two of those large 97 carbs with are 250 CFM each. All indications are telling him that they are working correctly with his combo.

I would lean toward more carb not less. You want to avoid a lean condition with a blower.

Thanks, Tim. Do you happen to know the jetting on his carbs? I agree, I don't want a lean mixture on my engine, neither do I want to over-jet it.

Fuel air mixture meters are available. Why not know the real numbers? They are very inexpensive vs a blown flathead.

Truth be told, you could probably use more carb than even the 48's. Consider 50's era Holley 2110's or the big Strombergs that Tim mentioned. If you don't want to go this route, then I'd run the 48's and I'd also install a quality AFR/O2 meter in your exhaust system. It is very important to know your AFR in tuning a blown motor!
