Stripping Chrome

Does anyone know how to strip chrome or what to use? I would like to strip the chrome off a old shifter, but I am afraid of the grinder being too aggressive. Any ideas out there.

If your goal is to paint it, remove the handle and sand blast it. Then prime and paint.
If your goal is to rechrome it, the plater can do it.

The best way is to take your part to a chrome shop. They will do a "reverse electrolysis". Its quite cheap. I had an I beam and wishbones done, cost $20NZ (about $14US).

Take To You're Local Plater Let Him Soak In His Strip Tank Over Nite Presto All Gone And No Damage To The Part. Very In expensive Also.
