String Wind Clock

Anyone know where I can find the correct weight / strength STRING. Sounds funny but too light, it wears out and snaps, too heavy it won't rewind. Thanks,,,

Maybe some braided fishing line? 35 lb test?

They make it in all kinds of sizes and tests; there should something suitable. One thing I do know is that it's a lot stronger than ordinary string.

Hi Tubman, Yup I tried Fly Fishing line, not sure of the #/ test but it was too stiff n too heavy. Have to look for lighter weight/test. Thanks,,,

I think Tubman is on to something. Braided line is EXTREMELY strong, flexible and comes in various weights; especially if you go to a bait shop near salt water. Fresh water braided line is thin, but I something in 30-50lb test in braided is pretty substantial.

Fly-fishing line is double tapered and stiff. Remember, in fly-fishing, you cast the line, not a lure. Braided bait-casting line comes in many varieties; I'm sure you can find something ideal (not monofilament).

I took a quick look on Amazon, and they have an amazing selection. Not only different tests and sizes, but a color selection too. Black, white, blue orange; whatever you want.

Some antique radios used string for tuning. There is reproduction string. I tried everything on my old Zenith 'till I found some.

Go to a fishing tackle shop and ask for a piece of line called SPIDER WIRE, 100 lb test is very thin and flexeble, in NJ it should be easy to find.
