Strange Rear Backing Plate

I have what looks like a rear backing plate that has a cage on the inside of the track piece. It would surround the rear brake camshaft. The outside piece that supports the bearing sticks out only about 11/16 inch. The single bearing insert looks like it is about 1 inch long. My June '28 car with original equalizer brakes has an outside bearing support that is longer than this one, but shorter than the 29-31 type.

Everything on the plate appears to be original. The wedge adjuster has a number A2040 forged or cast in it.

Any ideas? Thanks.

I believe you have a early 28 Rear Backing Plate. The very early plate is smooth on the exposed side, the second style has the rienforcing ribs on the exposed side. The shaft size is smaller than the later plates.
