strange rattle

I think mine are changing size, I have at least half a dozen 11/16 but all my 3/4 are gone except one.

LOL
I must have 1/2 dozen 3/4" sockets but have to search and search to find an 11/16".
Over on garagejournal.com there's a thread going about a wife that organized her husband's tool box. Maybe I need her to do mine :D

Brendan, sounds like you have a lot of leads to run down. Good luck!

If it continues to rattle when you are stopped, it seems likely it is in the engine and possibly the trans section. Does it still rattle when you are stopped, the clutch depressed and the trans in gear? In this case nothing in the trans is moving so it would have to be forward of the trans.

i just put in a rebuilt trans and a new throw-out bearing. it starts when i slow down and then i am compleatly stopped and foot on or off the clutch. the noise will soon stop, or stop when i shut off the motor. when i start it back up the noise is gone

Hmmm. I chased a very similar sounding rattle in a flathead for over a year. It WAS the bendix gear hitting the flywheel every now and again. I narrowed it down one day when I removed the starter and push started the car. Noise was gone so I knew it was the bendix. I might look in that area again.. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Brendan.

that is what the noise was. last week i pulled the starter and the Bendix was very slopy replaced the starter with a good one and good to go

Hope it isn't the T.O. bearing. I have posted here that a new BCA T.O. bearing lasted 7 miles before it sounded like a coffee can full of marbles. The clutch was adjusted properly.
New no longer equals good.

Been chasing a slight rattle like you discribe. Today realised it is (likely) coming from the crank case vent tube!! (Which is not loose)Hm. Strange...
