I read an article about straightening wheels by heating spokes and cooling fast with wet rag. Anyone here tried that out? Wondering if that works and just how much to heat the spokes? Thanks, Tom
Sure, works good.
It's going to take some time to get used to how much heat and where to apply it.
Find the high spot and heat a spoke in that area. Don't get it red. Just below red, and hit it with a hose or wet rag. I like a hose. It cools faster which is what you want. Heat the next spoke to where the first was next time. Then the one on the other side of the first next time. Alternate like that and if more straightening is needed start back with the first and so on. Don't be afraid of going too far one way. If you do just go to the other side of the wheel and repeat the process.
Good to know. What means of heating do you recommend to a place without gas?
Yours is a much better response than when i asked this question and was told to tighten m
A propane torch has worked well for a guy in our club.
