stop light

hello I have a 40 pickup, it has 2 tail lights but it also has a large stop light on it with the word stop painted on the inside. can anybody give me any information on this item.

Used to be lots of after-market stoplights available. Sounds like an "add-on" to me.

Standard equipment was a single taillight on the driver's side. A passenger side taillight was a dealer installed option (most optional equipment was dealer installed back then). The "Stop" light is definitely an aftermarket accessory. I have one mounted in the back window of my '38 pickup as a third brake light.
