stock fan vs electric

I am not a purist by any means, but this is what I did years ago and it is one of the few things that has not been a problem. I have a 12 volt system with an alternator. I have a rather large electric fan pulling air through my radiator and a smaller secondary fan in front of the radiator mounted rather low as a pusher. My larger fan is wired to my ignition switch, but both fans can be controlled indvividually with toggle switch for each under the dash. I don't use the smaller fan very often, but when I do I'm glad I have it. Yes, they draw some current so I never flip them both on at the same time as it will produce sort of a mini-miss. Also, I have my idle set a bit high in the summer at abou 1,100 rpm and my my guage then shows that I am charging at idle. Early spring and autum here in Wisconsin when I never use the smaller fan, I set my idle back down a bit. Even with all that, I don't run real cool. Usually around 200 degrees, but I never overheat either.
I was at the drive-in with my wife last evening and there were some super High Dollar rides to be seen. My car is all my own work and very average at best, but the flathead always gets its share of attention and comments. So...I like my flattie, but I'm not in love with it either. Over the years I have called that thing some names that even God has had to Google. When he figures out what I've said I am for sure dead and then my farm-girl wife who could drive tractor at age seven but can't shift my 3 spd Ford is stuck with the thing and then some poor friend will be asked to sell it for her. That wiil be an adventure I will be glad to miss especially since there is a rather obscure toggle switch und the dash for the electric fuel pump also.....So good luck with all of that. Keep your cool and blessings to all.

My 36 charged poorly and overheated for 15 years until I mounted a huge 6 volt puller fan and installed a 2 wire alternator to power it. I can drive for hours at 160 degrees in 100 degree Texas heat. All for under 500 bucks.
