Stock 40-41 pickup tail lights

Does the stock 40-41 pickup have one or two tail lights? They are the round lights correct? Anyone have a "correct" part number? Thanks

One was stock on the left side. It included a lense in the housing to light the plate. They are the round ones. I think they are the same as the ones used on woodys from 36 - 41. Sorry I don't have a part number. Take a look at some of the ealy ford supplier sites.

Left was stock on all, parts and wiring extension existed for installing right, and at very least by '41 a few states required both sides and so got vehicles built with both. From the '28-48 book, don't have a 1940 book here, looks like '40 was first year of commercial to get the single bulb light, a version with 01C number. This is basically the same light as '33 Ford and various commercials up into the 1950's, but needs some research...you want a painted one (they exist in R&L, but the R is fairly scarce) and there are variations in mounting hardware over the many variations of the basic design.

My 40 had only one factory taillight, the other side was a add on. Ken

Here is what I have observed, and extrapolated, so cannot be a authorative.

Ford pickups from 1932 to at least 1941 all used a two bulb design with the base teacup stamping about the same as the 1928-31 model A. The original 1935 or 1936 I have has a embossed "duolamp" rather than the raised lettering on the model A. I dont know if this is due to supplier difference or if it is a true characteristic of all lamps after a certain date. All of the factory photos I have examined show the mounting screws for the rim off center. The left lamp will have a license lens that lights down for the below light license plate.

The rims are similar to 1932 except they use a countersunk mounting screw instead of a round head and the lenses again are similar to 1932 except they have a slight convex shape instead of flat. Again, these could be supplier variations or a specific or general date change.

I believe the same lamps were used on station wagons through 1940.

Note this is a totally different teacup than the single bulb design used on 1933-36 cars and sedan deliveries 1933-48. I think this single bulb lamp was used 1948 to ?? when Ford switched to a red plastic lens without a rim.

Anybody with more knowledge please step in!

Karl, I agree with what you say and I might add that the body is black and the the rim is stainless and the screws are bright finish including the mounting screws.

Unfortunatly Carpenters 01C-134202 and 3 are the 1933-36 style single filament... His interchange is wrong. As is Drakes.

I don't know what they are today, but mine are double contact from Carpenter. They both have brake and turn signals. I got mine in Sept. '06
