I was just informed that if you're interested in Bill's version of a shock, he is out of stock:

From:

Stipe Machine Co., Inc
N5718 County Road M
Plymouth, WI 53073

"We are currently out of stock on the shocks but looking into running production on them again soon. We are hoping to have some ready by early 2015. If you are interested, I can put your name on the waiting list and contact you when we get closer."

I wouldn't mind being on a list - but what is the expected hit when the boat comes in?

I think he quoted about $1200 for a set of four.

Probably worth it, but: YIKES!! I'll be sleeping in the barn after that purchase.

'probably worth it' ! Yeah, all of the 'stuff' that we buy that is out of sight $ wise is always worth it...no :) !

What has had me wondering ..WHY is it probably worth it in this case, is that they are not stock, i.e.- real restorer stock stuff ? And, if not stock, then why not use a set of tube shocks at say...few hundred for whole job and great shock ride
Now, I know that Bill makes some GREAT stuff...cause I've bought from him and have a special place set up in the 'barn' , and probably will again..soon:D

That will give you plenty of time to fix up the barn. Heat, big screen TV. bed and your Model A in the "living" room.

For me, after looking at the front spring, the shock must damped out the spring's ring in the same direction. I can see how the original shocks can do this correctly (same angle).. I cannot see how a modern shock could be placed to do that... and why many folks write of stiffness in the front in using them....

Guys,
Do you listen to yourselves? There's another thread on the Barn about the cheap, lousy offshore parts that we are presented with when we have to buy parts for our A's. Is anyone connecting with the fact that if we purchase high-quality American made parts for our cars that we will have to pay for them in accordance with the quality of the materials and workmanship that went into them? Yes, the Stipe shocks are expensive, but they are beautifully made with excellent materials, and Bill has solved the problems that existed with the original design. There are threads on the Barn about repro shocks costing half the price of Stipe shocks which either did not work from the outset, or which lasted only a few months. Could we all put 2 and 2 together here and realize that if we want quality and reliability we are just plain going to have to pay for it?

If you read all threads in this post, it was about status in Stipe shocks and their production plan, not about American vs. Foreign parts... and by the way, I'm planning to use either org. or Bill's shocks if you read my posts..

You, kind sir, have hit the old nail on the head. On the head.

Bill is making another run. If interested contact him. Later in the year or early next year. He is taking names.

Quality counts. Just ask your wife which shocks you should buy. Wives are always in favor of Quality Products.

For example: I went to Home Depot & Wal-Mart the other day where I showed her several vacuum cleaners in the $100.00 range. Then she saw one in an unopened box way back on the bottom shelf whereby she asked me to pull the box out to see what the "box" looked like.

It had a price tag of $369.00.

Guess which one we came home with? See, very simple, Quality counts !!!!

I just got off of the phone with Stipe Machine and they are currently taking names for early 2016 orders.
I have read all of the discussions and have done my research and am confident that I will pay a fair price for the best product available.
