Still No Fuel on Start-Up

Hey Mike the fuel pump still pumps almost the same pressure at idle as it does at higher RPMs. Raceing the engine may draw the fuel in the carb lower before shutting down. G.M.

One idea, disconnect the line at the carb. Hook up a to container and crank it to see if you have fuel flow. If you do, now you know we're the problem lays. If you don't have any flow, got the to a hardware store and buy 15 ft of cheap plastic tubing. Put one end down into the tank (or a container) and make temporary connection to the carb. If this works, now you know you have a bad connection from the pump to the tank or you have problem in the tank. What I'm suggesting is to by-pass each area to eliminate the good from the bad. Good Luck...... Gordon

I had the same problem with my '35. I then put on a new fuel pump, (Farm & Fleet), and the problem is totally gone! If the car has been sitting for a week, I pull out the choke, one pump of the gas pedal, and it starts after a revolution or two. I believe band aids like an electric fuel pump and fuel line check valves just cover up the basic problem; leaking check valves in the fuel pump. Breadman

Ok guy's! Thanks so much for your advice. I'm going to install a Shewman check valve hose, a new pump from Airtex, then I'm running clear fuel hose from the pump to my new Uncle Max Stromberg 97 carb. MAN! That ought to do it now!

Don that sounds good but a 10 lb pressure gauge in the line between the pump and carb will tell you exactly what is happening. This is importantant if your gas is getting to hot in the line and pump.
Breadman, gadgiteers check valve is not a bandaid. Read the test proceedure in the service Ford bulletins for testing the pump. The valve according to Ford is supposed to hold the pump pressure, lets say 2 1/2 lbs for at least 1 minute before dropping to zero. That's not a very good valve in my opinion. Gadgiteers valve in the hose corrects thie FACTORY problem plus his hoses are all have a Teflon inner liner which I don't know of any fuels or additive that effect Teflon. The old hoses can look real good and you don't see any gas leaking but they suck air making it very hard to start. He makes the flex hoses with and without the valve. Contact gadgiteer@aol.com G.M.

Check your power valve in bottom of carb. If it has a slight tear in it, the fuel in your carb bowl will run out the bottom of carb and into cylinders. I am going to replace mine this week, #55 power valve (Ford 59 carburetor). Mike
