I am trying to stop leaks in a two tooth steering sector and wondered if replacing the cork gasket with a neoprene o ring might be a good idea? Thanks Bob

I just rebuilt mine. I replaced the sector and sector housing with an improved part that came with needle bearings and the upgraded seal. Works perfect. 300 miles and no leaks.

Penn-Rite steering box lube, available from Restoration Supply, Escondida, CA, online catalog. Mine would leak the 600w avail from the vendors. all of it. Installed the Penn-Rite, NO leaks.

I used an o-ring in mine ---havn't looked at it for 25+ years, use mobile 636 oil, most every original gear I took apart the cork wasn't doing much

I took these pics when building a 1931 gear.
In a previous life I had assembled this unit with a fibre gasket coated in permatex (instead of the questionable cork)
It dripped after a few days so the next job was to tear it apart & machine one case half for an O-ring.

The 3rd pic shows an easy way to set up using your sector's original centre. Why not?...it's there.
I ground the tool bit carefully so it would cut a smooth rounded bed for the ring.
Lube the O-ring with rubber grease so it'll seal better & more easily slide when adjusting.

That last pic (showing the 600W oil fillup) was 7 years ago.
The Model A hasn't been in use, but still hasn't leaked a drop.
