Steering problem

I have power steering on my 57 T Bird. It steers to the right fine but it catches as I turn back to straight or when I turn left. The power steering equipment is original. I replaced all hoses and seals. Any thoughts?

Take the weight off the car and try to find the catch with the motor off. It could be a rusty spot in the cylinder, or a control valve acting up. Please let us know what you find.

The power steering control valve needs to be aligned so that the pin that goes thru the control valve housing and the hole thru the end of the drag link. If that pin is not installed, the control valve can turn and start rubbing against your sector arm.
Also, make sure all four of your hoses from the control vavle are not binding or rubbing against something when you turn the wheel. Need one guy sitting in the car turning both ways while you watch the hoses as they move. It is a mistake not to install the hose bracket that mounts on the inside frame rail.

Sounds like the box is not adjusted right. Perhaps someone tried to adjust the box to eliminate the play and got the screw too tight. I adjusted the box on my 69 Torino and was told by an old time mechanic, not to get it too tight, because it will drag in the middle.

My 54 Ford had the same issue when I first bought it and it turned out to be the steering box itself Had Jim Weatherly in Fullerton Ca go through the box and that was 15 years ago. Has been great since.
